With warmer days just around the corner, Barking Riverside’s summer event programme is about to kick off. The new season will offer a variety of dates for your diary, with highlight events set to deliver fun and excitement for all ages.
The neighbourhood’s newest riverside venue, The Exchange, will open from Thursday through to Sunday each week throughout the summer. Situated in an eye-catching teepee at the Barking Riverside Project Office, guests can enjoy a menu of drinks, snacks and signature cocktails, providing the perfect spot for an after-work catch-up or a weekend relaxing on the waterfront. The Exchange will also host its own calendar of events, from movie screenings to live comedy and quiz nights, many of which will be free to attend.
For 2024, residents can expect the return of familiar favourites, including the Barking Summer Games, which will be hosted again on the riverfront by the Resident Events Panel. Bringing the neighbourhood together for a day of family-friendly entertainment for the third time, guests will be able to take part in a range of lively activities such as tug-of-war, mini golf and giant board games. The event promises to be a fantastic way to appreciate the riverside location this summer.
In September, Emerge East will be held again at Barking Riverside. Running for its third year, this immersive festival celebrates creativity, community and nature, with a roster of workshops, activities and talks for attendees to get stuck into. The popular Home Cooks station will be a highlight of the festival, enabling visitors to sample an array of cuisines and tasty snacks prepared by local foodies. DJs will provide a vibrant soundtrack to the event, which has previously attracted both residents and visitors from all over London. The Makers Market will again be located in Station Square, bringing its tempting offers of local crafts, gift ideas and specialised food products back to Barking Riverside.
More is to be unveiled in the coming weeks, from fitness-related events to impressive art installations. Residents can be sure that the events planned for Summer 2024 will cater for any age group and interest.
