Winter events at Barking Riverside

As the winter season unfolds, Barking Riverside has hosted and a gearing up to more festivities for the community, bringing together creative workshops, parades, live music, and Christmas markets. Here’s a look back at some highlights and a glimpse of what’s still to come in our neighbourhood:

 

EFG London Jazz Festival Saturday, 16th November
Barking Riverside recently welcomed the EFG London Jazz Festival 2024 with a series of vibrant performances and engaging workshops. Attendees enjoyed unique experiences, from a relaxing yoga class set to live harp music by Marysia Osu to an interactive music session for families. Highlights included an intimate performance by pianist Fergus McCreadie and a one-of-a-kind musical journey on an Uber Boat from London Bridge to Barking Riverside.

 

Picto Facto Art Parade at Barking Riverside Wednesday, 20th November, Rivergate Square
Adding excitement to the winter calendar, Creative Barking and Dagenham presented the Picto Facto Art Parade on November 20th. Spectators enjoyed the energy of French street theatre, where giant inflatable puppets brought a delightful display of music, dancing, and color through the streets of Barking Riverside.

 

Festive Wreath Making at The Wilds Friday, 29th November, The Wilds
In a cozy evening of creativity, residents gathered on November 29th to make festive wreaths with local florist Blooming Flair. This event, hosted by the Resident Events Panel, offered attendees a chance to meet neighbours over mulled wine, hot chocolate, and festive music, leaving with a beautiful handmade wreath.

Christmas Market at Rivergate Centre
Saturday, 7th December 2024, Rivergate Centre, 3pm–7pm
This festive market will bring together local businesses offering everything from handmade crafts to tasty treats. Browse through the stalls, enjoy live music and carol singing, and bring the family for free craft activities. Be sure to book workshops in advance, and enjoy food options for all dietary preferences. With something for everyone, this is a festive highlight not to be missed.

 

Christmas Light Switch-Ons
Thursday 5th December, Rivergate Square, 5:30pm

Thursday 12th December, Station Gardens, 2:30pm
Our community is eagerly awaiting the annual Christmas light switch-ons, a magical moment in the winter calendar. Watch as Station Gardens and Rivergate Square are illuminated, accompanied by performances from Pullums Dance Academy and the George Carey Primary School choir. 

 

Jus Jammin at The Wilds
Saturday, 18th January 2025, The Wilds, 6pm–10pm
Start the new year with Jus Jammin, an immersive night of live music, food, and art at The Wilds. Part of the Healthy Mind, Healthy Grind program, this popular event educates young people and families on healthy, budget-friendly eating. Proceeds from the event will support Soul and Sound’s education and skills initiatives across the borough.
