Barking Riverside Limited (BRL) has recently submitted a planning application for an exciting new park in the Circus and Boulevard along the Northgate neighbourhood.
Set to become a new landmark here in Barking Riverside, the 500m park will stretch from the District Centre near the station to the Circus. It will include large open green spaces and new trees, and it will be a place where the community can come together and enjoy the outdoors. There will be play areas designed for children of all ages, from toddlers to teens.
BRL held an engagement session and carried out surveys on the online polling system, Thames Talk, to ask residents which facilities they would like to see in open spaces at Barking Riverside. In response to feedback, the plans for the new park include picnic benches, seating areas and wooden play materials. Taking on board residents’ views, plans put an emphasis on activities for teenagers. To help create an inclusive space, BRL collaborated with charity Make Space for Girls, who campaign for parks and public spaces to be designed with teenage girls in mind. Further, the proposals include courts for team sports and gym equipment, which can be used by teens and adults.
Play spaces will build on some of the popular features of Little Bees playground, the playpark opposite The Wilds. The proposals include more mini trampolines, a sandpit and another large slide. You might even spot a hammock in the area close to the Circus!
The park is expected to open in summer 2025. Residents will start to see works commencing from this autumn.
