Thames View is a wonderfully diverse community with very reasonable evolving needs, and with the largest development in Europe being built across the road (Barking Riverside) this isn’t going to change any time soon. With great change will always come, great challenges therefore, as the new chair I’m pleased to introduce you to the new committee for the Thames View Residents Association.
As a local resident of 19 years, founder of houseofloulee.co.uk and a community worker who has spent the last few years researching the aspirations and needs of our local community, my work is primarily focused on improving the health and well-being of residents via the organising of events and activities, such as the Doctor Drop-in Clinics across Thames View, Barking Riverside and the centre of Barking.
Vishal the Vice Chair is a local resident of 23 years, Director of Every Person is Capable (Epic) an urban Arts not-for-profit organisation working with disadvantaged young people and adults. As community worker organises the Young Citizens Action Group (YCAG) and the resident’s planning forum, he is also on a local steering group taking action to re-open the Ripple Nature Reserve.
Shah the Treasurer is a local resident of 7 years, a family man working in financial institutions and is currently a branch manager at NatWest Bank. He has been part of many community groups in the past including a Resident Board member and Scrutiny Member for Tower Hamlets Community Housing (THCH).
Marcel, the Secretary, a local resident of 14 years, Director of Soul and Sound CIC offers free plant-based cooking workshops for the community, with the aim of upskilling & educating on the benefits of eating healthy on a budget. He also founded Just Jamming, a Live Music & Art experience bringing people together.
Our aims are to address local issues, respond to local community needs, source funding/grants and work together to harness the power needed to enhance Thames View.
